Lydia Patterson Institute is a dream maker for young students
JUÁREZ, Mexico (UM News) — Seventy percent of the students attending the Lydia Patterson Institute, a United Methodist college-preparatory school in El Paso, Texas, are from Mexico and work for scholarships. Ruth Moreno gets up at 4:30 a.m. to start a journey that can take from one to four hours. "Lydia Patterson helps you with your dreams," says the high school senior. Kathy L. Gilbert has the story and Mike DuBose has the photos.

Church repair team helps neighbors

BREWSTER, Mass. — The Helping Hands group assists people who don't have the resources to do everything from building ramps for wheelchairs to securing a loose handrail. The Rev. Fred Yarger started the ministry after he retired as pastor of Northside United Methodist Church.

East Ohio Conference
Annual conference meeting will move to Akron

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — The annual meeting of the East Ohio Conference will move from Lakeside Chautauqua to Akron in 2021. Akron's John S. Knight Center is a better fit because of accessibility, cost, housing and breakout space, said the Rev. Ed Peterson, superintendent of the Canal District. Rick Wolcott reports.
