Bishops elect new leaders, plan for renewed church

During its November meeting, the United Methodist Council of Bishops elected its first Black woman president and other officers. The bishops also discussed their vision for how the denomination can move on from a tumultuous time.

Traditionalist group not going away

The Wesleyan Covenant Association took the lead in creating the new Global Methodist Church, but WCA leaders say their organization needs to keep fighting for churches wanting to leave The United Methodist Church.

Black leaders discuss church future

Speakers at the 55th General Meeting of Black Methodists for Church Renewal were leery of what a possible splintering of The United Methodist Church will mean for Black churches, based partially on the results of past mergers and splits.

Annual conferences plan online, hybrid events

Some annual conferences will do a portion of their 2021 meetings in person as the coronavirus threat subsides. Resolutions on issues including sexuality and race will be considered.
