'Unlikely' home for remnant United Methodists

The Most Unlikely Place is the name of a bistro and art gallery in the small Nebraska panhandle town of Lewellen. It’s also where local United Methodists have begun to meet, following their churches’ decision to disaffiliate.

Conference sees record 50 clergy candidates

The Great Plains Conference Board of Ordained Ministry — or BoOM for short — has seen a boom of its own this year. A record 50 candidates interviewed from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 at Topeka First United Methodist Church as part of the credentialing process that will lead to ordination.

Café Quetzal is celebrating its first anniversary as a coffee shop ministry and while they have high quality coffee, they also have baristas who are ready, willing and able to counsel customers or talk about Christianity.
