Church helps 93-year-old recover after flood

HAMBURG, Iowa — The pastor and members of Hamburg and Shenandoah United Methodist churches are helping 93-year-old Virginia Lynn rebuild her life after flooding destroyed most of her possessions. The Rev. Luke Fillmore had been Lynn’s pastor for just seven months before the tragedy struck.

South Georgia Conference
Clinic, water access delivered in Kenya

BAXLEY, Ga. — Because of the work of the Rev. Bobby Gale, a Kenyan woman recently had her baby in a clinic instead of a mud hut or in the open bush. Gale’s Unto the Least of His ministry has brought fresh drinking water to 50,000 people and will soon open its second medical clinic in Africa. Gale is the pastor of two United Methodist churches in Georgia. Kara Witherow reports.

Teams needed for tornado recovery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — United Methodists continue to wield chainsaws and other equipment as they help residents of Beauregard and parts of Lee County, Alabama, recover from a deadly March 3 tornado. Summer work teams will be needed, reports the Rev. Lisa Pierce.

WASHINGTON — Bishop Ken Carter, the president of the Council of Bishops, has called on United Methodists to use the Holy Week to forgive one another and to seek forgiveness in return.
