Church in Liberia gets malaria medication
MONROVIA, Liberia (UM News) — The health department of The United Methodist Church in Liberia received $40,000 worth of malaria medications and other supplies donated by the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries. The shipment is among the donations through the church’s Imagine No Malaria initiative, a part of Global Ministries’ Abundant Health program. E Julu Swen reports.

Congregation that lost it all sends aid to Bahamas

PANAMA CITY, Fla. — Many members of Lynn Haven United Methodist Church lost it all — including their church building — when Hurricane Michael struck in October 2018. But after seeing the complete devastation Hurricane Dorian left behind in the Bahamas, the congregation mobilized. They identified Bahamas Methodist Habitat, which has received a solidarity grant from the United Methodist Committee on Relief, as the best way to help.

Women of Color program assists Drew student

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The 48th graduate of the Women of Color Scholars Program said the mentoring and financial help she got from the program made an important difference. Elyse Ambrose earned her Ph.D. from Drew University in August.

Historic Alabama churches get National Parks grants

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — St. Paul United Methodist Church is one of five churches and sites that played important roles in the civil rights movement that will receive about $3.4 million in grants from the National Parks Service. St. Paul is adjacent to Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, site of the 1963 bombing that killed four girls. St. Paul played host to civil rights organizational meetings and will receive $500,000. Greg Garrison reports.

UN Refugee Agency
Churches honored for refugee work

ROME — Humanitarian Corridors, a partnership program formed by Sant'Egidio Community and the Federation of Evangelical Churches in Italy, is the European regional winner for The UN Refugee Agency’s Nansen Refugee Award. The Methodist Church in Italy is part of the federation. The program sponsors refugees and helps them resettle in Italy to start a new life.
